Do Not Follow is a heartfelt and introspective novel about Seema, a middle-aged immigrant woman, who returns to her hometown after 17 years to confront her past, her family, and herself. Navigating grief, clutter, and unexpected revelations, she explores life, love, and loss in search of self-discovery and closure.

This story will resonate with anyone who has ever struggled to reconcile their past with their present. Deeply personal and universally human, filled with moments of nostalgia, humor, and heartache, it’s a must-read for someone who has ever felt the pull of home, even when it’s the last place they want to go.

Writing a novel is a solitary act, but bringing it to life is anything but. Do Not Follow exists today because of the unwavering support, belief, and patience of so many incredible people.

First and foremost, to my dear husband, Vishal—your steadfast love, encouragement, and willingness to hold down the fort (and often, my sanity) made every word possible. Thank you for believing in this dream as much as I did.

To my exceptional editor Miranda Dillon and the entire team at Koehler Books: your vision, expertise, and dedication transformed a manuscript into a book. Your guidance, insights, and commitment to this story have been invaluable, and I am profoundly grateful for your partnership.

To my family and friends: your cheers, your understanding when I disappeared into my writing cave, and your constant encouragement fueled me through every challenge. Your belief in me, both as a physician and as a writer, means the world.

And to my readers: thank you for picking up this book. I hope Seema's journey resonates with you. Your willingness to step into her world is the ultimate reward.

With deepest gratitude,
Surbhi Bansal, MD
